Bengaluru, June 9, 2026: Aahwahan Foundation has officially launched its flagship environmental initiative, "Breathe Better India: Bengaluru’s Green Mission Against Air Pollution," with a vision to combat rising air pollution levels and significantly enhance the city's green cover through large-scale plantation drives and ecological restoration programs. The initiative aims to transform Bengaluru into a healthier, greener, and more sustainable urban environment by mobilizing citizens, institutions, corporate organizations, and local communities to participate in meaningful environmental action.
As Bengaluru continues to face increasing challenges from rapid urbanization, vehicular emissions, traffic congestion, and shrinking green spaces, Aahwahan Foundation has announced plans to undertake extensive tree plantation drives across key locations in the city. The initiative will focus on planting and nurturing trees along roadsides, metro corridors, public parks, lakes, government schools, colleges, and other urban spaces that can benefit from increased green cover and improved air quality. "Air pollution has emerged as one of Bengaluru’s most pressing environmental challenges. While infrastructure growth is important, it must be balanced with environmental sustainability. Trees remain one of the most effective natural solutions for reducing pollution and improving urban air quality. Through Breathe Better India, we aim to create a city-wide movement that encourages every citizen to participate in making Bengaluru cleaner, greener, and more breathable for future generations," said Mr. Braja Kishore Pradhan, Environmentalist and Founder of Aahwahan Foundation.
As part of the initiative, the foundation plans to work with stakeholders and civic bodies to support greening efforts along Bengaluru's metro corridors. Proposed plantation activities will include trees, shrubs, and green buffers along road dividers and transit routes to help absorb vehicular emissions, reduce dust pollution, and improve the urban landscape experienced by millions of daily commuters.
The foundation has also outlined plans to strengthen Bengaluru's ecological infrastructure by undertaking plantation and restoration activities around parks and lakes. By introducing native and climate-resilient tree species, the initiative seeks to improve biodiversity, reduce urban heat, enhance natural air filtration, and create healthier environments for local communities while supporting the city's long-term ecological balance.
Recognizing the importance of environmental awareness among young people, Aahwahan Foundation will also launch plantation programs in government schools and colleges across Bengaluru. Students will be encouraged to participate in tree-planting and tree-care activities, helping foster environmental responsibility and sustainability awareness while improving the quality of green spaces within educational campuses.
Aahwahan Foundation is also encouraging individuals, families, educational institutions, corporate organizations, resident welfare associations, and community groups to actively participate in the Breathe Better India movement by planting and nurturing trees within their neighborhoods and communities. The foundation believes that meaningful environmental change begins with individual action and collective responsibility. By inspiring citizens to contribute to the city's green cover, the initiative aims to create a community-driven movement that supports cleaner air, healthier ecosystems, and a more sustainable future for Bengaluru.
Through Breathe Better India, Aahwahan Foundation has reaffirmed its commitment to creating sustainable environmental solutions and empowering communities to become active participants in climate action. As cities across India face growing environmental challenges, the foundation believes that collaborative efforts between citizens, institutions, and organizations can help build cleaner, healthier, and more resilient urban ecosystems for generations to come.
