Modern Public School, Shalimar Bagh, recently participated in the Harit Delhi Abhiyan organised by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) reaffirming its commitment to environmental conservation , protection and the collective mission of expanding the green cover in Delhi. It brought together citizens and community members bound by a common vision of creating a cleaner, greener, and healthier future for the national capital.

Harit Delhi Abhiyan, this mega plantation project of DDA, is another endeavour towards covering the entire Delhi with greenery in response to wide-ranging, urgent environmental issues, including air pollution and ecological degradation. Initiatives being undertaken under the larger Harit Delhi umbrella include plantation of native tree species, wetland restoration, and development of City Forests across DDA-owned land.

The participation of MPS in the plantation drive is a reflection of the institution's committed outlook toward the nurturing of environmental responsibility among students so that they become active contributors toward sustainable development. This initiative has provided students, along with the entire school community, an opportunity to understand the vital role of trees and green open spaces for ecological balance and improving the quality of life in urban areas.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Alka Kapur, Principal, Modern Public School, said, “Planting a tree is a simple yet powerful step towards securing a healthier future for our children and generations to come. At MPS, we believe that education extends beyond the classroom and includes developing a deep sense of responsibility towards our environment. Our participation in the Harit Delhi Abhiyan is an effort to inspire our students to cherish nature, embrace sustainable practices and actively contribute to building a greener Delhi.”

One of the cornerstones of the Delhi Development Authority’s (DDA’s) environmental mission is the management and development of more than 5,000 hectares of land packed with greenery, including biodiversity parks, urban forests and conserved green spaces surrounding heritage sites. With the active involvement of citizens, NGOs and Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), this initiative aims to establish a firm tradition of community engagement in environmental conservation.

The participation of MPS in the campaign brings to the fore the significance of working together to solve environmental problems. Initiatives like the Harit Delhi Abhiyan, communities demonstrate how communities can unite in order to enhance the ecological health of the city while instilling environmental consciousness in younger generations.

The planting campaign reminds us that every sapling planted today sows the seeds of a greener tomorrow. With the continued support of educational institutions, community organizations and citizens, Delhi is on its way to becoming a more sustainable city for generations to come.
