Keonjhar (Odisha), October 14, 2015: Committed towards spreading financial literacy across India, including the tier II & III cities, Multi Commodity Exchange of India Ltd. (MCX) organized yet another programme on commodity futures market, in association with Barbil Jewellers Association in Keonjhar (Odisha) on Tuesday, October 13, 2015. The programme was mainly focused on educating the market participants about the benefits of hedging bullion price exposures in wake of increasing volatility in gold and silver prices.

During the sessions, while highlighting about the benefits of gold and silver futures contracts offered by the Exchange, Mr. Vibhor Tandon, Assistant Vice President-Business Development, MCX said, The availability of these contracts with different lot sizes have helped both direct and indirect stakeholders, as a cost effective price risk management platform, through efficient price discovery, and most importantly high price transparency.

Mr. Ganesh Prasad, Former Secretary, Barbil Jewellers Association said, Volatility in gold and silver prices has tremendously increased over the years, but at the same time, with the presence of commodity exchanges such as MCX, the bullion traders have been able to hedge themselves.

I would also like to stress upon the fact that, besides price risk management, the efficient price discovery through the MCX platform and further wide dissemination of prices through various mediums have instilled high degree of transparency in the entire bullion value chain, which is also greatly benefiting the small stakeholders in the value chain, Mr. Kumar added.

Market participants had enriching discussion during the Q&A phase of the session as they got an opportunity to have their queries answered by MCX experts.
