DataVare 2.0 Update Brings Preview and Mac Support to TGZ to MBOX Conversion

New Delhi, India, Sept 2, 2026 — Zimbra's TGZ backup format doesn't open cleanly in most other mail clients, which is why so many admins end up converting it to MBOX before moving their archives into Thunderbird, Apple Mail, or similar tools. DataVare Software has updated its TGZ Converter to make that specific conversion easier to trust, adding a preview step, selective export, and full Mac compatibility in its new Version 2.0 release.
The headline addition is a built-in preview pane. Before running a TGZ to MBOX conversion, users can now open the archive and look through folders, subfolders, and individual messages to confirm what's actually inside — useful for old Zimbra exports where the contents aren't always clear from the file name alone.
That preview pairs with a new selective export option. Rather than converting an entire TGZ archive, users can choose specific folders or date ranges and skip the rest, which cuts down on conversion time and keeps the resulting MBOX file focused on what's actually needed.
Version 2.0 also brings the TGZ Converter to Mac for the first time, letting macOS users run TGZ to MBOX conversions natively instead of relying on a Windows machine. The update rounds things out with a redesigned interface meant to guide users through each step without requiring technical background in Zimbra's file structure.
"A lot of the support requests we got were people converting TGZ files without really knowing what was in them until after the fact," said the product manager at DataVare Software. "Letting people preview and choose what to export before converting solves that at the source."
DataVare's TGZ Converter is available for both Windows and Mac, with a free trial and full technical support included.
