August 19th, 2026, Gurugram, India: The University of Design, Innovation & Technology (UDIT) welcomed its newest cohort at its Orientation 2026, held recently at the Lemon Tree Convention Centre, Sector 60, Gurugram. Bringing together students, parents, faculty and university leadership, the event marked the beginning of a new academic journey for a generation of young creators entering an education ecosystem built at the intersection of design, technology and management.

The orientation set the tone for the years ahead, introducing students to UDIT's academic philosophy, its interdisciplinary learning environment and the people and communities that will shape their university experience.

The event commenced with the traditional ceremonial lamp-lighting, followed by a welcome to the Chief Guest, Mr Ankit Gupta, CEO & Co-Founder, ideaForge Technology Ltd. The presence of a technology entrepreneur at the orientation reflected UDIT's larger vision of bringing together creative thinking, technological innovation and entrepreneurial practice.

Addressing the new cohort, Dr. Jitin Chadha, Pro Chancellor, UDIT, spoke about the university's journey and its vision for building an institution that prepares young people not simply for existing professions, but for a rapidly changing world where the ability to create, adapt and solve meaningful problems will be increasingly important. "You are not just joining a new university; you are stepping into history as the founding cohort, with the opportunity to shape the spirit and legacy of UDIT," he said.

The keynote address by Mr. Ankit Gupta, CEO & Co-Founder, ideaForge Technology Ltd., offered students an industry perspective on innovation, entrepreneurship and the possibilities that emerge when technology is approached with curiosity and purpose. At UDIT, the emphasis on turning ideas into real-world solutions found resonance with Mr. Mehta's own entrepreneurial journey. "There has never been a better time to build something that can define the next generation of products and capabilities for our country," he said.

Following the keynote, Mr. Mehta was presented with a memento by the university. The programme continued with an address by Prof. Usha Nehru Patel, Pro Vice Chancellor, UDIT, who spoke to students about beginning their university journey with openness, curiosity and a willingness to engage deeply with learning beyond the classroom. "Do not think of yourself merely as a student. Think of yourself as the founding generation that will shape what comes next in terms of innovation," she said.

The orientation also introduced students and parents to UDIT's academic ecosystem through presentations by the university's departments. The sessions offered an overview of the diverse disciplines, pedagogies and opportunities available across the university, giving the incoming cohort a first glimpse into the interdisciplinary environment they will become part of.

The Orientation programme also included an address by Ms. Simrat Joshi, who introduced students to the wider support systems and university resources available to them as they begin their academic journey. Welcoming the new cohort, Simrat Joshi encouraged students to engage, participate and make the most of their time at UDIT.

The formal programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms Sakshi Jain, Head of Department, Visual Communication, UDIT. The morning concluded with a high tea, providing students, parents, faculty and university leadership an opportunity to interact informally and begin building the community that will define their time at UDIT.

For the incoming cohort, Orientation 2026 marked the beginning of a new academic journey for students across UDIT's School of Design and School of Management. The cohort includes undergraduate students across Communication Design, Animation Film Design, Fashion Design, Fashion Communication, Interior Architecture & Design, Product Design, Fashion Business Management and Luxury Business Management, along with postgraduate students in Communication Design, Interior Design & Styling, and Luxury & Fashion Business Management.

All undergraduate students begin their journey with a Foundation Programme within their respective schools before choosing their specialisation from the second year onwards. The Foundation year allows students to explore diverse approaches to creative thinking, making, problem-solving and collaboration, while building a strong base for their chosen discipline.

As UDIT begins an academic year, it continues its larger ambition of building an education ecosystem rooted in India and connected to contemporary global practice, where creators are equipped not only with disciplinary knowledge, but with the confidence to imagine and build what comes next.
