KWT Spider 2.0 , a desktop SEO crawler for large site technical audits, is designing its offline and live crawl modes around this very window—the window just before and just after a migration, replatform, or redesign goes live, when the cost of a missed error is highest and the visibility into what actually changed is typically lowest.
Auditing Before the Site Is Even Live
KWT Spider’s offline crawl mode allows teams to point the tool at a local folder — HTML, PHP, ASP files and all — and run the same technical checks that a live crawl would run, before the new site is deployed anywhere. At the same stage, the companion Broken Assets check flags missing CSS, JavaScript and image files, catching the sort of thing that can be easy to miss when putting together a site from a template or migrating content by hand.
“It’s not really an SEO step at that point, the pre-launch audit is a QA step,” said a KWT Spider product lead. The problem is that it’s usually not treated like one. “The design is reviewed, the functionality tested and then the site goes live with nobody having checked whether the redirects actually work.”
And Right After The new site is live, and the first real test of whether the migration held together is the same crawl, run live this time. Confirm that redirects resolve correctly rather than chaining or looping, that canonical tags point at the new site's own URLs, that structured data validates against the new page templates, and that nothing meant only for staging made it into the crawlable production site.
KWT Spider’s Compare Projects & Trends feature lets teams directly compare the post-migration results with the pre-migration crawl, providing a clear before-and-after view instead of requiring separate audit and pre-migration reports. Key metrics—including broken links, indexability, duplicate content, and more—are carried forward and shown as comparative trends, not just as isolated snapshots.
