WooNinjas Launches WP Document Library to Bring File Organization to WordPress Sites

WooNinjas has released WP Document Library, a WordPress plugin that gives sites a structured way to store, organize, and share documents.

WordPress handles single file uploads well and collections badly. Once a site builds up a few hundred PDFs, forms, and spreadsheets, the media library turns into a flat pile that nobody wants to search through. There is no front-end presentation, no grouping, and no access control beyond attaching a file to a page and hoping the right people find it.

The plugin replaces that with named document libraries. Administrators can create as many as they need, uploading files directly or pulling them in from the existing media library. Inside each library, documents are organized with categories that support parent and child levels, plus tags for classification that cuts across categories. A single site can run separate libraries for client resources, internal documentation, and course materials without them mixing together.

Visitors get search and filter controls instead of an endless scroll. Site owners can narrow what appears on any given page down to a specific library or category, so a client portal shows client files and nothing more.

Display is handled through shortcodes, widgets, or blocks, with three layouts available. List works for reference tables, Grid suits visual collections, and Folder gives visitors a browsable tree.

Access control operates on two levels. Individual files can be locked behind passwords, and visibility can be limited by WordPress user role. Those rules apply globally or can be overridden library by library, which covers membership sites, client portals, and internal documentation running on the same installation.

For sites where users contribute rather than only consume, front-end upload forms let people submit and manage their own documents through a shortcode, with no WordPress admin access required.

The plugin also tracks downloads and favorites, supports featured and pinned files, and can render documents in the browser instead of forcing a download.

Course creators get direct LearnDash integration, allowing structured file delivery tied to specific courses, learning groups, and gated lessons. That was the original use case the plugin was built around before it was generalized for wider use.

WP Document Library requires WordPress 6.8 or later and PHP 7.4 or later, with LearnDash 4.20.0 or later needed where that integration is used. Licensing covers single site, three site, and unlimited site use, available on both annual and lifetime terms.
