Toronto Family Law Firm Expands Access to Mediation Services

A Toronto-based family law practice has expanded its mediation services for separating and divorcing parents across the Greater Toronto Area. The service helps couples work out parenting arrangements, property division, and finances without going to court.
In mediation, a trained, neutral mediator sits down with both parents and helps them talk through what needs to be decided. It's not the same as sitting across a courtroom from your ex. The goal is to help both parents reach decisions that work for their kids, not just win an argument. Mediation is usually faster and cheaper than litigation, and sessions can be scheduled around a family's own timeline rather than a court's.
The firm's mediators are accredited Family Dispute Resolution Practitioners. They can work with couples whether or not either side has a lawyer. For cases where conflict is high, the practice offers shuttle mediation: each parent stays in a separate room, and the mediator moves between them so neither has to sit face-to-face with the other. Telephone mediation is also available, and clients can choose a male or female mediator.
"Most parents going through this aren't trying to be difficult. They're scared about their kids and their future, and that fear makes it hard to think clearly," said Natalia Denchik, the firm's lead practitioner. "A mediator's job is to slow things down enough that people can actually hear each other."
New clients start with a free consultation to talk through their situation. From there, mediators meet with each parent separately before bringing them together. Denchik said it's common for both parents to want roughly the same outcome but to have lost track of that somewhere in the back-and-forth of a difficult separation. In those cases, a mediator's job is mostly translation.
The firm has two locations: one on Sheppard Avenue East in Toronto, and one in Richmond Hill, which also serves families in Newmarket, Aurora, and Barrie.
Court isn't the only option for separating parents, and for many families, it isn't the best one. Mediation won't work for every case, but for parents who can sit in the same room, or even the same building, it can settle things in weeks instead of months.
Families in Toronto and the surrounding area can book a free, confidential consultation to see whether mediation fits their situation.
