BMW India has brought the new M440i xDrive Convertible to the local market. It is a car that seems designed for people who really enjoy the act of driving. The vehicle arrived in showrooms starting May 2, 2026 and it is being sold as a completely built-up unit. It is an interesting addition because it tries to balance the classic feel of an open-top car with the kind of performance that BMW usually packs into their M-tuned models.

Under the hood sits a three-litre inline six-cylinder engine, which is the heart of the experience here. It puts out 374bhp and 500Nm of torque, and that combination is enough to push it from a standstill to 100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds. That makes it the quickest car in its specific segment. The whole thing is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission that is designed to shift gears almost without the driver feeling it. It also uses a 48-volt mild hybrid system to help keep things efficient while still delivering that power when needed. It sounds pretty aggressive too, thanks to the M Sport exhaust system.

For anyone concerned about handling, it uses xDrive all-wheel drive, which constantly monitors road conditions to make sure the power is going where it is needed most. It also has a rear differential that helps keep things stable when taking corners at speed, plus an adaptive suspension setup that aims to make it sporty without being too harsh on the daily commute.

2026 M440i xDrive Convertible, design-wise, leans into a look that is both modern and slightly aggressive. It features a vertical grille in high-gloss black and sharp LED headlights that frame the front end. The roof is another big highlight worth mentioning. It is a panel bow soft-top, meaning it gives you the quiet and solid feel of a hardtop but keeps the classic look of a fabric roof. It can open or close in 18 seconds and it is even capable of doing that while driving at speeds up to 50 km/h.

Inside, there is a large curved display that handles most of the controls. It runs on BMW’s latest software. It is designed to be user-friendly, supporting voice commands and touch, which helps keep the cabin looking uncluttered. The seats are finished in perforated upholstery and the steering wheel has that flat-bottomed shape that is common in sportier models now. Harman Kardon handles the audio with 12 speakers.
Safety is built in with features like six airbags and various driver assistance systems, including parking help that remembers the last 50 metres of travel.

BMW has priced it at Rs 1,09,00,000. They are also offering some financial packages through their local arm, including an assured buyback option after three years or 10,000 kilometers, which might appeal to someone who does not want to commit to long-term ownership. It comes in eight colors and if someone wants something more specific, there are individualization options available.
