On 17 May 2025, the Allahabad High Court gave an important judgment. The court said that the two degrees given by Jamia Urdu, Aligarh—Adib-e-Kamil and Moallim-e-Urdu—are not valid for getting government teacher jobs in Uttar Pradesh. Many people used these degrees to apply for jobs as Urdu teachers in basic education schools. But now, the court has stopped these degrees from being used to get teacher posts.

1. What Is the Problem?
Jamia Urdu is an old educational institution in Aligarh. It started in 1939. It gives degrees to people who study Urdu. Two popular degrees from there are:

Moallim-e-Urdu – for learning how to teach Urdu.

Adib-e-Kamil – a degree in Urdu literature.

For many years, people with these degrees applied for teacher jobs in government schools. But some people went to court and said these degrees are not equal to other recognized degrees like B.Ed. or D.El.Ed. The court looked at the case and gave its decision.

2. What Did the Court Say?
The court looked at many important questions:

Is Jamia Urdu a real university under Indian law?

Are its degrees equal to those from recognized universities?

Can these degrees be used to apply for teacher jobs?

After studying the case, the court made the following points:

a) Jamia Urdu is Not a Recognized University
The court said Jamia Urdu is not approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC) or the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). It is not listed as a recognized university. So, it cannot give valid degrees under Indian law.

b) Degrees Are Not Equal to B.Ed. or D.El.Ed.
The court said Moallim-e-Urdu is not equal to a B.Ed. or D.El.Ed. degree. The NCTE has not approved it. Similarly, Adib-e-Kamil is not equal to a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Urdu from a recognized university.

c) Past Use Does Not Make It Right
Some people said that the government allowed these degrees earlier. The court said even if this happened before, it was wrong. Just because something was done before doesn’t mean it was legal. The law must be followed now.

3. Who Is Affected?
This decision affects many people. Thousands of candidates who studied at Jamia Urdu will no longer be able to apply for government teacher jobs. Many had:

Passed teacher exams like CTET and UPTET.

Cleared interviews.

Even got appointment letters.

Now, all that is not valid because their degrees are not accepted. This has caused sadness and worry among many people, especially those from poor and minority backgrounds.

4. What Happens Next?
a) Candidates May Go to the Supreme Court
Many candidates may now go to the Supreme Court to appeal. They hope the higher court will help them.

b) Government Needs to Act
The state government may give training or new chances to these candidates. They acted in good faith and trusted their degrees. The government can think of giving them support.

5. What Does This Mean for Education?
This judgment has a big message. It says:

Only degrees from recognized and approved institutions are valid.

The rules made by UGC and NCTE must be followed.

The government must check degrees before allowing people to apply for jobs.

It also shows that old policies that were not correct cannot continue. The law must be followed by everyone.

6. What Did Jamia Urdu Say?
Jamia Urdu said it is an old and respected institution. It was started before India’s Independence. But the court said history is not enough. It must follow today’s rules and laws. Jamia Urdu may now try to join hands with recognized universities to offer valid degrees.

7. What Did the UP Government Say?
The Uttar Pradesh government agreed with the court. It said that only degrees approved by UGC and NCTE will be accepted for teacher jobs. This will make the system fairer and clearer.

8. What Can We Learn?
This case teaches us:

Always check if a degree is recognized by law.

Even old rules can be changed if they are wrong.

The government should inform people about which institutions are valid.

Those who are affected by old mistakes should get help and new chances.

Conclusion
The court’s decision has changed the future for many candidates. It has also made the education system stricter and clearer. In the future, people should choose only recognized colleges and degrees. The government, courts, and education bodies must now work together to solve this problem in a fair and legal way. This will help protect students and also make sure that teachers in schools are properly trained.
