Vadodara | May 22, 2025: The School of Environmental Design and Architecture (SEDA), Navrachana University Vadodara, unveiled its academic exhibition on 16th May 2025. This bi-annual exhibition is known for presenting solutions to the real-life architectural problems of the world, which students try to find with the combination of craft, technique, and adaptive thinking.

Abandoned buildings, Empty villages, Crowded and Congested cities, Unaffordability of sustainable designs and many such real-life challenges are the actual stories of villages of Jawai & Doodhni in Rajasthan, Sandarna & Vadodara in Gujarat and many such other places where the students of SEDA have actually resided with the inhabitants to get the contextual, organic and adaptive solutions.

Such Solutions were showcased by the students presented through their work in Architecture, Interior Designs, and Visual Communication. The exhibition showcased how students were challenged to reclaim and reimagine past properties, reshaping them as public places that pay respect to memory and meet contemporary demands. Each student started by creating a narrative based on real memory then carefully charting it into an existing architectural solution. From adaptive reusage of heritage houses to the incorporation of new functional blocks in old city grids, the projects were themselves living dialogues between past and present.

SEDA students are made to become proficient in making models and prototypes of their designs and learn to handle latest workshop machineries such as CNC, laser cutting, power tools and such. This proficiency was amply evident in the display of models in the exhibition.

Abdul Rehman Street, CIDCO house in Mumbai and such other works which are the organic adaptations of the concepts, which students showcased through their practical learning at SEDA, Navrachana. But such solutions shall be intensified and upscaled with the help of the Government, PPP models and other kinds of support to give affordable solutions to the prominent architectural problems, which would encourage the upcoming generation to take on such challenges head on for a sustainable future.

Prof. Pratyush Shankar, Provost, Navrachana University, Vadodara, who is a renowned architect and have himself presented solutions to such contemporary problems through his widely acclaimed works, believes that students shall not be bound in the four walls of the classroom, to find the solutions to the real-world problems. And hence all semester students were encouraged to be there in the real world, plagued with real problems to find sustainable solutions and further to take them closer to the actual world through such kinds of interactions.

Speaking about the vision behind the exhibition and the school's approach to contemporary design education, Prof. Pratyush Shankar, Provost, Navrachana University, Vadodara, further shared: “At School of Environmental Design and Architecture (SEDA), design and architecture education is rooted in innovation, relevance, and responsibility. This exhibition reflects our students’ ability to merge creativity with real-world problem-solving across disciplines—architecture, interior design, product design, and visual communication. We’re proud to open our doors to the city and spark meaningful dialogue through their work."

Through this marquee exhibition the school hopes to open the doors for conversations, discussions, and discourse with the city, through this well-curated, well-presented exhibition!

The exhibition stands as a testament to SEDA’s commitment to cultivating socially conscious, future-ready designers and architects—inviting the community to witness, engage, and be inspired.
