Danieli Group completes record-breaking shipment from Porto Nogaro

A significant industrial shipment departed from Porto Nogaro, Udine, Italy, marking one of the most complex logistical operations ever undertaken at the port. The break-bulk vessel, BBC Fuji, was loaded at Porto Nogaro by Midsea, a subsidiary of the Midolini Group, on behalf of Danieli Group. The cargo consisted of 8,000 cubic meters of steel processing equipment and was destined for New Orleans, where it will contribute to the construction of a cutting-edge steel plant by U.S. industry leader Nucor. The shipment included ten massive structural supports for the steel facility, each weighing between 140 and 160 tons, along with additional components manufactured at Danieli Group’s Buttrio facility. Before reaching its final destination, the BBC Fuji will stop in Monfalcone, where additional cargo will be added, bringing the total weight to 5,000 tons and an estimated value of approximately $600 million. Once fully prepared, the vessel will set sail across the Atlantic. This delivery is part of a broader $3.2 billion investment by Nucor in a next-generation steel mill featuring Danieli’s Universal Endless (DUE) rolling technology, which optimizes efficiency and output by enabling the production of steel strips with variable thicknesses (0.8-25.4 millimeters). Upon arrival in the U.S., nearly 100 trucks and several barges navigating the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers will transport the materials to the construction site. The logistics operation also involved Ferest Shipping, a division of the Midolini Group, which handled customs procedures for Danieli Group and acted as the shipping coordinator for the vessel’s owner, BBC Chartering GmbH, through its general agent Creuza de Ma in Genoa.
