Auroville Festival comes to New Delhi

International Artists from several countries to showcase their works including arts, paintings, photography, sculpture, pottery, literature

New Delhi, September10, 2012 ?Established over 40 years ago, in collaboration with 124 countries supported by the Government of India and endorsed by the UNESCO, Auroville, popularly known as the ?City of Dawn? or ?A universal city in the making in South India?, has announced that its much anticipated Auroville Festival is scheduled to be conducted during September 14-21, 2012 at and in collaboration with the India International Centre, New Delhi. The week-long festival will feature Transformation, a contemporary art & photography exhibition and an international seminar that will explore Auroville?s role in society in a form of future city. There will also be a series of talks on the unique concept, its experiments in urban design and architecture, afforestation and environmental concerns, different approaches in economy, education, art, literature and the crafts as well as collaboration with the local bio-region.

The concept of Auroville city has been hailed by the likes of Smt. Indira Gandhi, JRD Tata, APJ Abdul Kalam and Dalai Lama amongst scores of others. The festival will bring together luminaries like Dr. Karan Singh, Sir Mark Tully, Dr. M.S. Swaminathan, Dr. Aster Patel, Dr. Mallika Sarabai, Dr. Vishakha Desai, Mr. Soli Sorabji, Mr. Doudou Diene, Mr. Marc Luyckz Ghisi and Dr. Malini Parthasarthy amongst several others, onto a single platform. The unique event will be a meeting ground for spirit and matter with its arts, paintings, photography, sculpture, pottery, literature, City in making with urban design, architecture, renewable energy, environment, education, new economy, social outreach, exhibition, seminars, talks, films and more.

According to Sir Mark Tully, veteran journalist and former Chief of Bureau for BBC, New Delhi, and the Chairman, International Advisory Council, Auroville Foundation, ?Auroville Festival is coming to Delhi to showcase the thoughts and ideals that the Auroville city stands for. It is hugely relevant in today?s fast evolving socio-economic scenario that our young generation is exposed to the legacy and heritage that highlights the salience of the city of dawn, Auroville. Being the diplomatic capital of the country, we also expect that the Diplomats in New Delhi will not only visit the Auroville Festival but help spread the word about Auroville internationally.?

The key attraction at the Auroville Festival is expected to be the much talked about art & photography exhibition - Transformation, which is a group show exploring the theme of the festival. It will be an unique art & culture event that brings a selection of contemporary art by established and emerging Indian and international artists including Adil Writer, Aurelio, Cecilia Cort?s, Chantal Gowa, Henk van Putten, Ireno Guerci, Michel Nicolet, Nele Martens, Pierre Legrand, Priya Sundaravalli, Sebastian Cort?s, V?ronique Nicolet amongst many others. The various works of these prominent artists will include, photography, paintings, sculptures, pottery etc.
