Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has once again showcased its commitment to facilitating immigration through the latest Express Entry draw. On June 19, 2024, IRCC issued Invitations to Apply (ITAs) to 1,499 candidates under the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). Each candidate invited had a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 663.
This draw follows recent initiatives aimed at attracting skilled immigrants to contribute to Canada's labor market and economy. Notably, on May 30 and 31, 2024, IRCC conducted program-specific draws, marking a significant step forward since the introduction of category-based selection in May 2023. The May draws targeted candidates from the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) and the Canadian Experience Class (CEC):
May 30 Draw: 2,985 ITAs issued to PNP candidates with a minimum CRS score of 676.
May 31 Draw: 3,000 ITAs issued to CEC candidates with a minimum CRS score of 522.

Express Entry is Canada's flagship system for managing applications under key economic immigration programs, including the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), Canadian Experience Class (CEC), and Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP). It evaluates candidates based on factors such as age, work experience, language ability, occupation, education, and spousal factors, using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) to assign scores. The highest-scoring candidates receive ITAs for permanent residency.
Introduced in May 2023, category-based selection allows IRCC to prioritize candidates in six categories aligned with Canada's labor market needs:
- Healthcare Occupations
- Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM)
- Trades Occupations
- Transport Occupations
- Agriculture and Agri-Food Occupations
- French Proficiency
French proficiency is particularly emphasized, with 30% of draws focusing on this category, while Healthcare and STEM occupations receive 15% and 25% respectively. The remaining categories collectively constitute 5% or less of the draws.
