Intel, a leading semiconductor manufacturer has recently announced their plans to rebrand their 14th generation Meteor Lake platform that is to be released later this year.
As the brand's history suggests, Intel has rebranded initially in 2006 since it adopted the Intel Core brand, then later it added "i" to the brand in 2008. Following the same strategy; Intel Rebrand CPUs referring to its future launches.
The new strategy involves segmenting client CPUs into mainstream and performance categories, denoted by the inclusion or absence of the word "Ultra" in the brand. The numbering system of 3/5/7/9 will remain but without the "i" prefix. The i3 brand will be dropped from the Ultra lineup, while the non-Ultra Intel Core lineup will lack the 9 model. This branding approach aims to simplify product names and provide clearer differentiation. The strategy will also extend to Intel's Evo and vPro CPUs and will be implemented with the launch of Meteor Lake. Detailed information about the CPUs will be revealed closer to the release date.

Hence, the rebranding is expected to simplify buying decisions for customers, especially in the mainstream and entry-level markets where Intel previously offered numerous CPUs with the same i3 and i5 branding. The specific specifications and configurations of the processors are yet to be revealed, generating anticipation among consumers.
While it remains uncertain whether Meteor Lake will include a high-end desktop part like the rumored Core Ultra 9 100xK, Intel's inclusion of this branding change indicates a possibility. If not, a potential Raptor Lake refresh could be on the horizon. The official launch of Meteor Lake later this year will provide further clarity.
