AMD, a global leader in high-performance computing, proudly announces the highly anticipated launch of the Ryzen 8000 Desktop Processors. Designed to redefine the boundaries of desktop computing, these processors deliver unprecedented levels of performance, efficiency, and innovation.

During a recent webcast called "Meet the Experts" with retail channel vendors, AMD provided valuable insights into designing its upcoming Ryzen 8000 series processor for desktops, mainly aimed at workstations and value servers. These processors, which will utilize the AM5 socket, are set to combine the next-generation Zen 5 CPU architecture with an incremental upgrade to the graphics architecture, referred to as Navi 3.5.

All of AMD's Ryzen 7000 series AM5 desktop processors currently feature Navi 2.0 (RDNA 2) graphics chips. This indicates that AMD plans to introduce new AM5 processors equipped with RDNA 3 graphics before the end of this year. This release will likely include desktop variants of AMD's Phoenix APUs, currently available only for laptops. Alternatively, AMD may refresh its Ryzen 7000 series CPU lineup by introducing new models featuring a new IO-die design incorporating RDNA 3 graphics, although this possibility is less likely.

A roadmap for the AM5 platform, spanning from 2022, was shared. The roadmap portrays the final stages of the AM4 platform, with the Ryzen 5000 series combining Zen 3 CPU architecture with Vega graphics. The current Ryzen 7000 desktop processor series, which integrates Zen 4 CPU cores and Navi 3.0 graphics, is slated for release in 2023. During the webcast, AMD confirmed for the first time that the AMD Ryzen 8000 series processors for AM5 will debut in 2024, featuring Zen 5 CPU cores and Navi 3.5 graphics.
However, with the Ryzen 8000 series processors now on the horizon, those who have patiently waited for another generation of upgrades or new PC builds have something definitive to look forward to. Notably, the slide also confirms that the AM5 socket will continue to be used until 2026. At this pace, we may witness two more generations of Ryzen desktop processors before the socket is replaced by a new and possibly named AM6 socket. Previous next-generation AMD Ryzen desktop roadmaps have indicated that the Ryzen 8000 series, known as "Granite Ridge" (or "Strix Point" for laptops), will include chips with up to 16 Zen 5 CPU cores across two CCDs. Additionally, the SoC will incorporate the Navi 3.5 GPU, which is expected to be a die shrink of Navi 3, providing improved clocks and efficiency while largely retaining the same features. An interesting observation from the shared slide is that it claims the current generation Ryzen 7000 series processors for AM5 utilize "Navi 3.0" graphics. However, the chips seen thus far in 2023 employ RNDA 2 (Navi 2.x) integrated GPUs.
