22nd May 2023, New Delhi: ORGAN India, The Organ Receiving & Giving Awareness Network (ORGAN) India, an initiative by Parashar Foundation and Team Manager for the Indian Transplant Team is scouting players for The World Transplant Football Cup.
With incredible performances by the Indian athletes, Team India won 35 medals at WTG 2023 and made the nation proud. ORGAN India as the official Member Organization from Team India, and Team Manager for the Team, is now prepping for the Transplant Football World Cup.
ORGAN India is now concentrating on scouting transplant players from across the country for the Transplant Football World Cup held by The World Transplant Games Federation which will be held in Cesenatico, Italy in 2024.
\"Our efforts are not just limited to holding seminars or disseminating information through various mediums. Our outstanding performance at WTG 2023 helped the athletes begin a conversation around organ donation. Each district, city, or society they came from was awed by their performance and there were celebrations once the athletes returned home. What better way to take the cause across the country than with exemplary performances in sporting events that unite everyone. With the Transplant Football World Cup, we wish to further spread this message. We want more transplant athletes to come forward and awareness. We will be with them every step of the way\", shared Sunayana Singh, CEO, ORGAN India and Country Representative from India at the World Transplant Games Federation.
Representing your nation is a great honor for an athlete. The Transplant Football World Cup is one such opportunity for transplant athletes. Having set a benchmark at WTG 2023, ORGAN India is now invested in taking our athletes to the next level by participating in the Football World Cup. They wish to again reiterate the fact that organ donation is not only a lifesaving gift but is a testament to the fact that life after transplant can be fit and healthy.
The search is on for transplant athletes who fit certain eligibility criteria. They must be active and fit. The athletes must be 1-year post-transplant recipients and be able to run 5Km. A Doctor\'s clearance certificate will also be required to confirm participation. The athletes will be required to undergo tests to ensure that they are fit to participate in the World Cup.
ORGAN India will only be facilitating the scouting and guiding the transplant players with the process of participation and providing some level of training. Other related costs will be borne by the athletes.
About ORGAN India:
Organ Receiving & Giving Awareness Network (ORGAN) India is an initiative of the Parashar Foundation a non-profit organization based in Delhi. It is also supported by the Vijaya Gujral Foundation another non-profit organization. ORGAN India Project was initiated in 2013 after the former Chairperson, Late Ms. Kirti Parashar was told that she needed a heart transplant. Thanks to a generous organ donor, Kirti Parashar got a new heart which was transplanted into her on December 13th, 2013.
The family initially underwent a lot of struggles and realized that there was an urgent and pressing need to raise awareness about organ donation, hence started ORGAN India under the umbrella of the Parashar Foundation. Today, it has become one of the key organizations in India working on the issue of organ donation and has a Pan-India presence working under the aegis of the National Organ & Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTTO).
