The government has banned all solo treks in Nepal's high-altitude trekking regions. This regulation will go into effect on April 1, 2023. All solo trekkers in the Himalayas must now engage a licensed guide in order to participate in any type of trekking activity, per government regulations.
The decision has been taken on March 4, 2023, by the Nepal Tourism Board in reaction to the increased incidence of mishaps & fatalities involving trekkers who were not accompanied by guides. To protect trekkers' safety and security, Nepal decided to ban solo treks. Officials from the Nepal Tourism Board claim that it would also promote sustainable tourism in the area and aid in environmental preservation.
The Nepal Tourism Board recently clarified that FIT and solo trekkers must work with agencies that have been approved by the government to provide guides. Trekkers are allowed to select any operators they desire for their trekking expedition.
Lamichhane encourages travelers to do their inquiry and confirm that the operator they are dealing with has a license to operate lawfully in Nepal because there are numerous unlicensed trekking firms offering services. The Nepal Tourism Board is also putting the finishing touches on a database that will include a list of all authorized trekking operators in the nation.
One may anticipate paying a minimum of $17 per guide each day to join on the walk. The cost increases in accordance with the amount of experience of the guide (or guides) and the difficulty of the trek.
