Minneapolis, Minn.? Last March 2022, Meyers solidified its commitment to sustainability by signing The Climate Pledge alongside 300 other advocates, including Amazon, BestBuy, PepsiCo, Procter & Gamble, Unilever, Nespresso, and Quorn.
Meyers has always been adamant about its efforts to reduce the effects of greenhouse gases. It took a bigger step toward reinforcing its commitment to greener business practices by signing the pledge. The company has also been vocal in its sustainability advocacy, involving them in its core values.
The Climate Pledge
The Climate Pledge is a collective call for companies and organizations to take action on the world?s current ecological and environmental crisis. It invites businesses to collaborate and create a safe and healthy planet for future generations.
Under this pledge, all signatories shall commit to work toward a carbon neutrality plan or a net zero-rating of carbon emissions by 2040.
As a first step, Meyers started reducing its carbon emissions by moving to 100% carbon-free electricity and changing its manufacturing processes. While some greenhouse gas emissions and carbon footprints remain, they are mostly caused by the natural gas used to heat the Meyers building.
Commitment Efforts
Joining The Climate Pledge entailed committing to offset all emissions. Meyers will focus on monitoring and validating all greenhouse gas emissions within its office in the next months. It?ll also review its operations to devise offset alternatives. The organization will ensure that its measures are as precise as possible and that the offsets it acquires are transparent, ethical, and cost-effective.
According to Meyers? Chief Executive Officer, Chris Dillon, the company knew it had to reach its goal with its operations well before 2040. This opportunity to work with companies that value the same advocacy inspires them to build a better legacy for the brand and hope for the planet?s brighter future.
As a commitment to this advocacy, Meyers recently hired Rebecca Gleason as their new Environmental, Health, Safety, and Sustainability Coordinator to help boost its sustainability initiatives. Gleason?s background includes ocean plastic pollution, climate change research, and greenhouse gas emissions.
Her responsibilities include measuring Meyers? carbon footprint, acquiring offsets, maintaining a safe workplace, and complying with various environmental regulations. Hopefully, Gleason?s expertise will further assist Meyers in maintaining its leadership position in the sustainable packaging market.
