Jim Morrison. Janis Joplin. Sid Vicious. Countless others. How many more legendary artists do we have to lose to heroin? That is the question that Wanaka asks on his new single ?Another Spoon?. Releasing Oct 7th, the track and its accompanying video is an ode to the artists that have fallen to the opiate.
Another Spoon sees Wanaka?s tender vocals chronicle the escapism of the drug and what it means to the song?s hero. The single has a melancholy that runs throughout, balancing between intimate verses and its explosive end.
The accompanying Claymation video brings Another Spoon?s themes front and centre with psychedelic flair. The piece depicts an artist sad and alone in the real world who discovers a colourful realm blessed with music upon abusing drugs. The bittersweet twist however is that though they have found a temporary happiness, their true body wastes away.
Another Spoon continues Wanaka?s musical tapestry, weaved by evocative and poetic songs. Taking influence from grunge to alt-rock to folk, as well as nature itself, the French-born Israeli artist refines diverse sources into his signature folk-rock sound, bolstered by poignant songwriting.
Having started music at the age of 9, moving across the organ, guitar, and ukulele, it is easy to see the deep-rooted influence that music has had on Wanaka, and why Another Spoon?s subject matter would hit so close for him. The artist invites music lovers of all backgrounds to listen to Another Spoon and consider how they may help a friend with whatever demon is plaguing them.
Another Spoon will be available across all platforms 07/10/22.
