New Delhi: National Youth Day is celebrated on 12 January being the birthday of Swami Vivekanand, one of India?s greatest spiritual and social leaders. In 1984 the Government of India declared this day as National Youth Day and since 1985 the event is celebrated in India every year.

?Swami saw hope for the future in every child and believed that with ?muscles of iron? and ?nerves of steel? they could bring about social change. Swami himself personified the eternal energy of the youth and a restless quest for truth. Today, almost 50 percent of India?s population is under the age of 25. The future of the country rides on their shoulders- making celebrations that empower young people so important,? said Dr. Sandeep Marwah Chancellor of AAFT University of Media Arts in a webinar to celebrate National Youth Day in association with Scouts Guides Organisation.

?Swami Vivekananda propounded the importance of Education in building a nation. He believed that education was the primary means to empowering people. He specially emphasized on education being relevant to the common masses,? added Dr. Marwah who is also Chief Scout For India.

National Youth Day creates awareness and provides knowledge about the rights of people in India. It is a day to educate people to behave properly in the country. The main objective behind the celebration is to make a better future of the country by motivating the youths and spreading the ideas of the Swami Vivekananda. National Youth Day is also famous as Yuva Diwas.
