Manassas, Virginia (forpressrelease) July 18, 2019 - Rob's Customs & Restorations, a Northern Virginia custom auto body shop, recently released a guide to car restoration. If you have an older car and are hoping to get it back on the street or simply put it on display, restoration may be the first step.
Car restoration entails rebuilding key pieces of the automobile to match the way it was first assembled at the factory. Parts of the car may need to be removed, replaced, or repaired to bring the car back to its original look, and auto shops may disassemble the car's entire body to achieve this. Many people choose to have their cars restored because they enjoy driving an old-fashioned automobile but want to make sure it is safe to do so. Others prefer to show their cars in classic car shows and other events, many of which award prizes in various categories. Whether you are planning to drive your car or keep it in pristine condition for showcases, you will likely need to work with a professional to identify the necessary updates.
A complete restoration will likely include some exterior and interior updates. Classic cars typically have their engines and transmissions replaced, particularly if they have been unused for some time. Cloth and vinyl interiors and exterior paint are also common fixes. Antique cars, which are older than classic models, commonly require brake and steering system repair as well as specialty electrical work -- including new headlights -- due to their age. When it comes to muscle cars, you can expect updates to the acceleration equipment to bring these cars back to their original performance and new body panels to elevate their exterior. Finally, vintage trucks often require a new chassis and suspension along with body and paint touch ups, particularly if they have been used for hauling heavy loads.
