Residents of Los Angeles Support Legal Medical Marijuana Delivery

Cities like San Jose and Los Angeles have essentially permitted the rise in illegal marijuana distribution by banning safe, technology-enabled, regulated delivery models. Over 100 cities statewide, including San Diego, Oakland and San Francisco, are showing that technology-enabled delivery can be safer for patients, particularly those with legitimate accessibility and medical problems.

Noemi Vasquez, San Jose resident, explained her situation, “I have lived with Lupus for seven and half years. My chronic pain and limited mobility make it a struggle to work and take care of my family. The City Council’s ban on medical marijuana is harmful to patients like me, and it does not make our community any safer.” Vasquez voiced the sentiments of countless others, “Medical marijuana has saved my life. Besides the obvious and overwhelming support for medical marijuana delivery in Rio Vista, San Jose, and other areas in the Bay, other important findings of the survey include:

• Residents worry about illegal drugs if officials continue to ban delivery. At least 53 percent of participants in the survey support delivery services because, if it remains prohibited, people may turn to unsafe and illegal methods that are near impossible to police.

• Over half of residents think that technology-enabled models will secure certain safeguards. Of respondents, 65 percent believe technological safeguards, such as guarded distribution, patient identification, driver background checks, GPS tracking, and valid operating licenses will make delivery of medical marijuana safe for patients.

• Most people believe that legitimate patients have a valid right to access cannabis treatments that their doctors recommend. A whopping 91 percent of survey respondents agree that patients have every right to obtain the medical marijuana they need to treat their conditions.

• As with other prescription drugs, residents want medical weed available for delivery. At least 69 percent of them support delivery to medical patients because many do not have access to transportation, and weed delivery to their homes helps them better plan and manage their chronic ailments.

The poll also found only 32 percent of respondents aware that San Jose and other locations in the Bay area do not permit access to medical weed via delivery services. These are not the only cities that overwhelmingly support delivery to patients. Approximately 80 cities in California have medical pot delivery services operating for the last few years without any issues at all.

After a ban on legal delivery, Los Angeles saw illegal operations skyrocket. However, a later poll of voters showed more than 75 percent of residents favoring legal delivery in Los Angeles.
