The Government of India is dedicated to modernise the public sector of the country in all the possible ways, and the Roads and Highways are also not untouched by this. Several development projects have been initiated in this sector under the modernisation campaign. Under this modernisation campaign, several advanced and hi-end technology is being integrated into the administration and operations of the various sectors, just to make the system more efficient, automated, and expeditious.
This innovation-driven integration is making a tremendous impact on the highway management and construction, and the man who has been instrumental to this transformation is the Chief General Manager (IT and Highway operations) of NHAI, Mr Akhilesh Srivastava.
He is heads various different highway development projects and modernisation campaigns such as Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS), drones for highway projects, Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) system, GPS Tolling, and Online Dispute Resolution (ODR).
Taking this quest of transformation ahead, NHAI, under the supervision of Mr Akhilesh Srivastava, has planned to install the video surveillance system in ten selected toll plazas to control the traffic congestion and keep the highway commute hassle-free.
Under this advanced video surveillance system, the NHAI is deploying hi-end cameras at the toll plazas that will send the real-time feed to the concerned regional traffic control rooms and NHAI headquarters. The real-time feed will include the time-stamped photographs taken by the cameras and they will be sent to these respective control rooms at regular interval of 30 minutes making the traffic monitoring an easier job.
There will be an imaginary IP line set in all the toll plazas which will be integrated with these cameras and once the traffic queue reached this IP line these cameras will switch to video mode and start sending the video feed to the regional traffic control room with alerts. If the matter is not resolved within half-an-hour of its reporting time, then the surveillance system will forward the feed to the NHAI headquarter with alerts, so that the officials can resolve the situation promptly.
Just before this system, Mr Akhilesh Srivastava has also gained much appreciation for his contribution in the development of the Online Dispute Resolution, which is one first-of-its-kind innovative portal for the quick settlement of legal disputes between the stakeholders of construction and commerce section.
India?s native ODR portal has been specially customized to deal with the disputes related to the National Highway Authority of India and its stakeholders. It was launched by the Honourable Vice President Mr M Venkaiah Naidu in Delhi on 21st April 2018. This mechanism is going to play a very big role is disburdening the judiciary of the country, hence it is being considered as one of the revolutionary development on the legal front also. The Honourable Minister of Law and Justice Mr Ravi Shankar Prasad and the team of dignitaries from United Nations were also present at the launch of the ODR Portal. The man behind the conceptualization and development of this portal is one and only Mr Akhilesh Srivastava, Chief General Manager (IT and Highway Operations) of National Highway Authority of India (NHAI).
