The highways are the lifeline of India, in terms of trade, transportation, travel and commute, this makes them heavily crowded, more than their capacity at times. To solve this issue of traffic, the NHAI is taking all the possible initiatives. One such initiative, which recently came is light, is the NHAI?s talks with the Korea Expressway Corporation.
The Korea Expressway Corporation is a corporation that runs the toll roads of South Korea. The corporation is known for their extraordinary work in construction and operations of expressway network in the Republic of Korea and also at international level. The corporation holds expertise in the following segments: Construction, toll collection, incidental business and supporting business. This means, the corporation is not only involved in the heavy-duty construction of tunnels, bridges, expressways, but also provides maintenance services, emergency response, structure rehabilitation, and real-time and three-dimensional road management services.
The National Highway Authority of India is all set to sign an agreement with the corporation to employ their expertise and services to establish a hi-tech sophisticated audio-video technology for effective Traffic Management on Indian Highways. If this tie-up sees the light of success, then it can help NHAI to employ the best technology for traffic management. An official source from the Minister of Road Transport and Highways of India Mr Nitin Gadkari said, ?The Centre has 4-View processors that enable the deployed personnel to see over 70 separate images. The personnel can view the entire highway network on the screen, and by simply entering a vehicle registration number in the system they can track the vehicle quickly.?
Earlier, on 18th February 2018, with the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Korea Expressway Corporation in Mumbai. The MoU was signed to promote technological cooperation and exchanges in road transportation between the two, which will be implemented on the 70-km long Nagpur-Mumbai Expressway project.
The Korea Expressway Corporation will be reviewing the traffic volume and provide technical support for the finest project implementation. Walking on the same path as Maharashtra Government, the Ministry of Road Transportation and highways is also working towards to get the best technical assistance for the country?s completely Highway network.
This update has come immediately after the NHAI?s step of installing video surveillance system at the ten major Toll Plazas of the country to control the traffic congestion. Under this initiative, all the selected toll plazas will get hi-tech cameras that will have the feature of providing a real-time feed to the control rooms in the regional offices with time-stamped photos. The NHAI headquarters will also be part of this systems connectivity and if the regional offices fail to resolve the issue with the given period of time the query will be extended to them for further action.
The National Highway Authority of India is doing its best to improve the travel experience of the highway commuters and for this, it is employing top international corporation also hi-tech technology. All these steps will together lead the Indian Highway network towards the new heights.
