Akshaya Patra begins food relief to fire affected residents of Shahadra, New-Delhi

Delhi ? 26 April 2018: On Monday, 23 April 2018, a shanty in Mansarovar Park, Shahadra, New-Delhi was engulfed in flames that completely decimated 250 dwellings in the locality. Over 2000 residents were badly affected losing most of their meagre belongings in the inferno.

The city administration was thrown into jeopardy dealing with the unforeseen calamity. After contacting a few NGOs and support groups, administration officials approached The Akshaya Patra Foundation requesting to provide essential food relief to the distraught citizens. Considering the gravity of the situation Akshaya Patra immediately extended support to the relief operation by providing meals three times a day to the distressed persons.

The Akshaya Patra started the feeding from 25 April 2018, distributed 1000 meals for lunch and dinner. The food relief will continue for a few days till the affected citizens are able to cope with the dire circumstances. Items distributed were poori, sabji, rice, dal and kichdi.

The new Akshaya Patra facility which is under construction in Jahangirpuri, North Delhi immediately initiated the relief operation by supplying equipment?s, manpower, materials and distribution vehicles from The Akshaya Patra Kitchen in Vrindavan, UP.
