NHAI Tasked With 150 Road Projects of 7,400 kms Length

A chronicle released by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) on March 31st 2018, reveals information on its upcoming projects for the fiscal year 2017-18. The autonomous highway agency - NHAI has been awarded with 150 road projects of 7,400 km of Rs 1,220 billion.

The report further details on the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI?s) previous project statistics; in the last financial year, it was assigned with a road construction of 2,860 km. This years? project allocation has seen a tremendous growth with an increase of 4,335 km road work.

The official statement states that the NHAI?s 2017-18 project grant has broken all records since its inception in 1995. On the higher tangent, projects of around 3,000 km of roads are estimated to be issued in the first two months of the upcoming financial year 2018-19.

Out of the total number of projects in the pipeline of NHAI for 2018-17, 3,791-km length of roads is dedicated to the Engineering Procurement Construction (EPC) model with a budget of Rs 430 billion. The Hybrid Annuity model is being stretched along 3,396 km with an allowance of Rs 765 billion. The Toll model is being implemented across 209 km with a financial blueprint of Rs 25 billion.

The statement also states that the process of tendering and project allocation started after the sanction of the Bharatmala Pariyojana program. Further, the subsequent new procedures for the authorisation were being put in place since November 2017.

The NHAI has been given powers under a special protocol to sanction EPC projects through its Projects Appraisal Committee and Cost Committee. Post the sanction of Bharatmala, around 232 projects with 11,200 Km of road length, and costing more than Rs 1.9 billion, were floated for tenders.

The NHAI, observing the delay in land acquisition in some states, employed some of its veteran officers to meticulously monitor the process and report the same. Further, the NHAI has been awarded road works of 1,234 km in Rajasthan, 739 km in Maharashtra, 747 km in Odisha, 725 km in Uttar Pradesh, 511 km in Tamil Nadu, 504 km in Andhra Pradesh, 468 km in Karnataka, 449 km in Gujarat, 389 km in Madhya Pradesh, 331 km in Haryana, 232 km in Bihar, 201 km in Bihar, 201 km in Jharkhand, 189 km in Telangana, 126 km in West Bengal, 120 km in Punjab, 100 km in Jammu & Kashmir, and the remainder of lengths in other states.

The Centre?s autonomous highway wing is set to execute its duties for the year 2018.
