In today?s world roads and highways hold a vital importance in the growth and development of any nation. As roads help in opening up more areas of trade and stimulate the socio-economic development of the country by improving the commute experience for citizens. But, having good roads is not enough to achieve the world-class infrastructure; a lot of different factors are required to be evolved in similar fashion. Sukhad Yatra App and 1033 Toll-free Highway Emergency number, which were launched on 7th March 2018, are such initiative to improve the over-all Highway infrastructure of India.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has launched a mobile app called Sukhad Yatra and 1033 Toll-free Emergency number for the ease of highway users. This app is a brainchild of National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and is developed with a vision to empower the Highway user. This multi-feature app gives the user facilities such as the access to road quality-related information, report and complaint regarding any accident or road damage on highways, real-time data related to expected waiting time at toll plazas, the location of wayside amenities, and the facility to purchase FASTag.

The 1033 Toll-Free number will enable the highway users to report an emergency such as an accident to get the immediate reliefs like ambulance, tow away services along the highway. This will ensure the rapid response by the authorities. The services on this helpline are available in multiple languages for the ease of the caller. Another important feature is the user location tracking that will provide the user with accurate and responsive complaint resolution.

The app and the Toll-free Emergency number for highway users was launched by the Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Shipping, Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation Shri Nitin Gadkari with Union Minister for Petroleum, Natural Gas, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Shri Dharmendra Pradhan.

Shri Nitin Gadkari said at the launch that the Sukhad Yatra mobile app will empower the highway commuters by providing them with the information on toll rates as they approach the toll plaza. The other key feature of the app will further facilitate the highway user experience with ease.

He added that the 1033 toll-free number will enable users to report an emergency condition, or other highway-related feedback, across the entire highway stretch and authorities, will ensure the rapid response in the time of emergency.

Congestion has always been a major source of frustration for the road and highway users and with the increase of vehicles on road the situation has only worsened in most cities in India. Therefore, it is now the time to redefine the country?s infrastructure and for this NHAI is working rigorously to create new infrastructural designs of roads and highways for 2018 and beyond.

The government is taking all the crucial steps and planning their investment in this sector to augment the socio-economic growth of India. With the rapid development of roads and highways, we can ensure the significant growth and improvement in the productivity. All stakeholders like NHAI, who are involved in this crucial task, are developing a much-needed understanding of the challenges, opportunities and risks related to the infrastructural investment. By developing this understanding they are able to plan and execute the proper integration of latest technical knowledge to construct projects that can ease the user experience. Apart from that, with the help of the dynamic officers like Mr Akhilesh Srivastava, CGM (IT & Highway Operations) of NHAI, the managerial knowledge required for the effective implementation and execution of these large-scale projects is also being supplied with full effect.
