Sukhad Yatra App and Toll-Free Emergency Number Launched to Supplement Highway Users with Latest Technology

Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Shipping, Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation Shri Nitin Gadkari has declared the launch of a mobile App and Toll-free Emergency number for the convenience of highway commuters. This application is available for download in the app stores with the name ?Sukhad Yatra.?

Sukhad Yatra app is the idea of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to facilitate comfort and necessities to the travellers crossing the highways network. One of the main features of the app is that it includes provision for the user to provide road quality information or to report any accident or pothole on the highway. The app also includes the option of buying FASTags to further enhance the experiential essence of the highways.

The NHAI has announced the launch of a Toll-free emergency number for the highways. Shri Gadkari has said that the toll number-1033, will allow users to report emergencies that warrant prompt action. The service is integrated with ambulance and tow away services to diminish the response time to incidents. It is also enabled with user location tracking and multi-lingual support for accurate and responsive complaint resolution.

The Union Minister has also confirmed plans for model driving training centers. This arrangement could see a set up of one model driving training centre in each district of a State or Union Territory. Financial assistance of up to one Crore Rupees will be provided by the Ministry. The agency ready to take up this project will also be required to provide the same amount as an investment. The scheme is structured and built with an aim of generating employment and meeting the needs of LMV and HMV drivers in India. It also aspires to impart various road safety measures among drivers. Training will be provided to the drivers who are involved in the movement of dangerous and hazardous goods.

The Minister continued to say that under the scheme of financial help for overseeing Road Safety Advocacy and Awards for the exceptional work carried out in the field of Road Safety, the assistance of up to Rs. 5 Lakh will be granted to NGO/ Trust/ Cooperative Societies for supervising the road safety program.

These efforts have been praised by the Union Minister for Petroleum, Natural Gas, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Mr Dharmendra Pradhan. He has said that the initiative for drivers? training can save up to ten thousand crore rupees every year.
