CIDC honored Akhilesh Srivastava with Vishwakarma Award

The Construction Industry Development Council (CIDC), which is a body attached to the erstwhile Planning commission, annually confers Vishwakarma awards to eminent personalities and organizations, who/which are excelling in the construction and allied fields. This year it acknowledged Mr Akhilesh Srivastava, CGM (IT & Highways operations), for his works related to National Highways, with CIDC Vishwakarma Award.
At the 10th edition of CIDC award event held in Stern auditorium, India Habitat Center, New Delhi on 07 March 2018, CIDC bestowed this award to Mr Srivastava under the category of ?Public Officer?.

Mr Akhilesh Srivastava is known for his tech-savvy nature and that is why he is leading the Highway operations division of NHAI. Many of NHAI?s recent projects are tech-enabled and tech-supportive. The role of Mr Srivastava can?t be ignored in such developments. Under his dynamic leadership, the Highway operations division executed much-awaited projects like FASTag and Wayside Amenities project.

Prior to the introduction of FASTag, commuters used to wait for a long time at Toll Plazas. NHAI?s received many complaints pertaining to the maintenance of Toll Plazas and suggestions to reform the Toll collection system. The NHAI never turned a deaf ear to the complaints/suggestions raised by commuters. In fact, it has come up with a good idea of introducing FASTag.

FASTag, which is also referred as Electronic Toll Collection (ETC), works on Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Technology. This system is inducing happiness to National Highways? commuters with its services. When a FASTagged vehicle passes by a FASTag-enabled Toll Plaza ,without the human intervention, the Toll will get deducted from the commuters? wallet. With the FASTag system in place, commuters need not wait for long time near Toll Plazas as it is reducing the congestion at Toll Plazas.

The Government of India (GoI) has made it mandatory to mount FASTag for every vehicle purchased after November 2017. And, the Highway operations division, under the astute leadership of Mr Akhilesh Srivastava, is in the process of setting up a dedicated FASTag lane in every Toll Plaza operated by the National Highways Authority of India.

Mr Srivastava?s role is huge in this FASTag project and he executed this project in a record time, which deserves applause and that?s one of the reasons this prestigious CIDC Vishwakarma Award reached him. Many more awards are to follow his achievements regarding the development of the National Highway Network in India.
