The eighth edition of the Rotary Club of Nigdi-Pune Charitable Trust ?Runathon of Hope 2018? half marathon will be held within the surrounds of Nigdi-Pradhikaran on Sunday, 11th February 2018.
The state-level marathon is a recognised event of the Maharashtra Athletic Association and will be flagged off from the Mayor?s Bunglow Plot (near Tukaram Udyan), Nigdi. The flag off is scheduled for 5.45 am.
The one-of its-kind event is a mix of both charity and competitive runs respectively and has a 12-event schedule for the day for boys, girls, men and women respectively over four age groups.
Hemant Kulkarni, President Rotary Club of Nigdi-Pune said, ?As always we are proud to host an event that has gained both in popularity and participation. Our objective combines sport as the reason to promote fitness and simultaneously raise funds for various community-based various social service projects. This year the slogan of the ?Runathon of Hope? is: Running Miles, Bringing Smiles, which relates to an individual signing up to participate the proceeds of which go towards enabling some needy individual get back smiles by way of our reach-out initiative.?
Dr. Sanjay Devdhar, Past President added ?Participants for the Runathon have always been drawn from various walks of life, which include school children, college students, and importantly executives from various industries who year after year shown a sizable interest in participation. Runathon of Hope is not just a fund-raising sports event. It is an activity that brings likeminded people together on one platform. Truly in sync with Rotary International?s vision for holistic social reforms and this year?s theme of ?Making A Difference.?
The half marathon, run over 21km (above 18 years), remains the showcase event, while the 10k run (above 18 years), 5k (above 18 years) 3k (Under-16 and 14) will be the other runs that make up the schedule.
The day?s schedule also includes an ?open? 5k run for corporates and a 2k run for charity, senior citizens and Rotarians respectively. A total prize money of above Rs. 4 15 lakh is up for grabs apart from a participation medal for every finisher.
This year separate prizes will handed out to the above 45 years section in the 21k and 10k runs respectively.
