Hindus have welcomed the reported launching of ?Interfaith Meditation Room? at General Mitchell International Airport in Milwaukee.

Distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada today, said that having a ?meditation room? at the Milwaukee Airport was a step in the positive direction. It would help infuse spirituality into the atmosphere of this important airport and would provide a place for reflection and prayer for passengers, employees, visitors, and others using the airport.

Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, pointed out that prayer/worship to God was highly important in Hinduism, oldest and third largest religion of the world with about 1.1 billion adherents. He hoped that this new facility would prove helpful to the Hindus travelling through Milwaukee Airport to meet their daily worship rituals/rites; which might include recitation of texts, repetition of mantras and dhayan (meditation).

Rajan Zed indicated that Milwaukee Airport should also seriously consider providing ?yoga room? for the passengers if it wanted to help reduce their stress levels and be a ?world-class? airport. Many international airports already have yoga spaces.

Zed urged all major airports across the world to make a provision for sacred space in the shape of ?meditation/prayer room? and a ?yoga room?. Many airports reportedly already do have multi-faith meditation/prayer-rooms.

Purpose of this meditation room is stated as: ?to provide designated space at Micthell International Airport for private meditation, prayer and public worship services for travelers and employees or interested persons of all faiths?. Ruth Agrusa is the Board Chair and Karen Pierce is the Board Member of this meditation room, which is reportedly open 24 hours daily.

Milwaukee Airport, owned by Milwaukee County, and whose history goes back to 1919, offers nonstop flights to 50 destinations coast-to-coast, and 160 international destinations are available from Milwaukee with just one connection.
