November, 17th, 2017, the fifth internal oxidoreductases seminar was held in Creative Enzymes. With the faith--- ?all for customers, all for biotechnolgy?, Creative Enzymes held the seminar to discuss the research and development direction in the field of oxidoreductases.
During this seminar, there were many kinds of products proposed by scientists. Among these products, there are three kinds of products belonging to oxidoreductases particularly prominent. They are xanthine oxidase, catalase and alcohol oxidase.
Why are these products popular in marketing?
Xanthine oxidase
Xanthine oxidase is a kind of xanthine oxidoreductase, which is a type of enzyme that generates reactive oxygen species. This kind of enzyme can not only catalyze the oxidation of hypoxanthine to xanthine but can further catalyze the oxidation of xanthine to uric acid. In addition to this, in some species they are also significant in the catabolism of purines, including humans. According to research, this enzyme can be applied in enzymatic determination of inorganic phosphorus, 5'-nucleotidase and adenosine deaminase.
Catalase
Catalase, functioning to catalyze the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide to water and oxygen, is a common enzyme found nearly in all living organisms. Among all enzymes, catalase has one of the highest turnover numbers. Only one molecule of catalase can convert millions of molecules of hydrogen per second. What?s more, catalase is a tetramer of four polypeptide chains. With four porphyrin heme groups, catalase can react with the hydrogen peroxide. In many assay formulations, this enzyme can work well.
Alcohol oxidase
In enzymology, alcohol oxidase plays a very crucial role in catalyzing the chemical reaction---a primary alcohol + O2 ↔ an aldehyde + H2O2. According to this reaction, the two substrates of this enzyme are primary alcohol and O2. Alcohol oxidase can specifically act on the CH-OH group of donor with oxygen as acceptor. Because of this character, alcohol oxidase can be also used for enzymatic determination of blood alcohol.
