New Delhi, 16 November, 2017: HSA Advocates advises Karm Chand Thapar (KCT) Group in divestment of 100% stake of KCT Renewable Energy Private Limited (KCTREPL), owning three fully operational wind power projects with a total capacity of 103 megawatts in the State of Andhra Pradesh, in one of the biggest deals in renewable energy sector this year. ReNew Power Ventures Private Limited, a Goldman Sachs backed company, acquired 100% stake of KCTREPL for INR 1,000+ crores.
The KCT Group, the Vikram Thapar-led arm of the business house was founded by Karam Chand Thapar in 1929, as a coal mining company, today the KCT Group has a highly diversified portfolio of businesses with interests in sectors ranging from coal and real estate, to manufacturing and aquaculture. The Group entered the wind energy sector in 2013 and which division is led by Varun Aditya Thapar son of Vikram Thapar.
HSA Advocates advised KCT Group on all aspects of the transaction and was led by Amitabh Sharma, Managing Partner along with Harvinder Singh, Partner and Devika Chadha, Principal Associate.
HSA Advocates was also involved in conducting the vendor due diligence, handling the bidding process involving around a dozen strategic and financial investors. While the corporate aspects were handled by a team lead by Harvinder Singh and Devika Chadha, regulatory advise aspects of the transaction was led by Mazag Andrabi, Partner. Projects related aspects of the transaction was led by Akshay Malhotra, Associate Partner.
