The strategy of commercial taxes department has worked out perfectly and the department has collected the maximum possible tax through GST in the first month itself. Almost 99 per cent of the tax will be contributed by just 34,236 of the total number of around 2.5 lakh registered traders. Thus, the commercial taxes department focused on these traders, trained them and collected around Rs. 2,609 crores till August 27. On August 28, on the last date of filing the returns, the state?s GST collection is likely to be an additional around Rs. 300 crore.

It means that the state collected close to Rs. 3,000 crore out of the total country?s GST collection of Rs. 60,000 crore for the month of July, for which returns can be filed till August 28. ?As many as 34,236 traders will contribute 99.05 per cent tax to the state. We have focused on them. Though the GST collection is not 100 per cent, we have realised the maximum tax even in the first month itself. There may have been some minor hiccups in the first month but these will be overcome in the next two or three months,? an official in the commercial taxes department said.
