‘Mission Stop Dengue’ awareness drive held at Ridge Valley School

In a bid to keep the city free of dengue, DLF Foundation and Medanta organized a workshop in Ridge Valley School on Thursday as a part of ?Mission Stop Dengue?- an initiative by Medanta and DLF Foundation.

The workshop commenced with five doctors led by Dr. Shubhang kick starting the awareness workshop with a quote ?If you are too small to make a change, then try sleeping with a mosquito.

This was followed by detailing of necessary precautions to be taken to prevent dengue. Children were sensitized about the warning signs and symptoms of dengue. They were also briefed about the precautions that are required to be taken including cleaning water coolers regularly, draining excess water from flower pots, cleaning and covering water tanks, dressing in light cotton full sleeves clothes and use mosquito repellent.

Over 100 students actively participated in the programme that involved various activities in creating awareness on the burning issue. The students from Class 6 to 10 were divided into houses for the quiz competition. The winners were given prizes for their performance. A nukkad natak was also staged on the issue. Anti-dengue kits were also distributed to students. The kit includes a number of Anti-Dengue tools such as a sample collection kit, microscope to spot the larvae in the sample, oil to cover the puddles which would suffocate the larvae and lastly mosquito repellant.
Mission Stop Dengue is targeting 15 more schools in the coming days including Summerfield, Shiv Nadar, Shri Ram School, Paras School, Jhankar School to spread awareness about the disease. Till date, 80,000 students have been sensitized on the issue.

?It was a great experience to be a part of this workshop and the quiz competition. It enlightened me on the need to tackle the menace of this deadly disease quickly?, said Ishaan Ekka, a student of Ridgevalley School.

?With approaching monsoon, dengue cases have been on the rise in the city. The aim of the Mission is to combat the spread of dengue. I urge everyone to come forward in this mission to combat the disease which is entirely preventable. We are looking forward to taking Mission Stop Dengue to a maximum number of people to ensure dengue prevention and control,? said Mr. Vinay Sahni, CEO, DLF Foundation.

?Dengue is a major health concern during monsoon. It is an entirely preventable disease. If precautions are taken on time, we can prevent the onslaught of this disease,? said Dr. Shubhang, Medanta.

?Mission Stop Dengue? was launched on National Dengue Day which aims to reduce Dengue through a continuous round the year activities in a span of three years by engaging RWAs and schools.

Last year, Gurgaon recorded a three-year high in the number of dengue cases, with the district health department registering 401 cases. In 2012, 375 cases were reported, while 175 were reported in 2013 and 86 in 2014
