Pune, January 6, 2017: Promethean Power Systems, a Pune-based company that has pioneered a diesel-free, thermal-energy-storage-based refrigeration solution, announced today that it continues to push forward its plans toexpand intoSouth Asia. The company, founded in the US in 2007, launched a manufacturing and testing facility in India in 2013. Since then, Promethean has sold over 500 milk chilling units to make village-level milk chilling economically and environmentally viable for its dairy partners in India. In reaching this milestone, the company has also helped 25,000 dairy farmers in India enjoy better prices for their milk and curb losses arising from spoilage.

Data collected over the last three years shows that at nearly every site, Promethean?s milk chillers have helped deliver benefits on three fronts: reduction in milk spoilage, improvement in milk quality, and elimination of diesel for power back-up.

Promethean is now looking to replicate its success in India in other milk-producing countries in South Asia. To this end, the company has been working closely with brands of international repute in Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, where the company collectively has already installed 25 milk chillers.

In Bangladesh, installing milk chillers for BRAC ? the world?s largest NGO in terms of number of employees ?has been a significant project for Promethean. With milk spoilage rates having dramatically dipped following the installation of the Rapid Milk Chillers at collection centers, BRAC has reported increased volume of collection because farmers see an assured off-taker for their milk. This has also linked more farmers to the organized milk market in Bangladesh.

Prometheannow also plans to take its chillers, which are entirely made in India, to other countries in South Asia as well as new markets in east Africa.Anticipating an increase in new orders, Promethean has ramped up local manufacturing in Pune to double its current capacity, which now stands at 300 units per year.

Jiten Ghelani, CEO, Promethean Power Systems, said, ?We are passionate about preserving the quality of milk and other perishables such as fruits and vegetables by enabling chilling as close to the farm as possible. What excites us the most is that not only is this an excellent business opportunity but also a great benefit to dairy and food processors, consumers, and rural villages/farmers.There is a spiralling interest in and support for clean energy solutions in emerging markets, which makes us believe our thermal-energy-storage-based chilling solutions can solve many procurement-level issues for the dairy industry.?
