Volunteer Heroes Across U.S. Creating Change and Making America Great.

Los Angeles, CA, October 28, 2016 -- On November 1, 560 mayors from big cities and small towns across America will proclaim Extra Mile Day and recognize over 1,000 volunteers and organizations who are making a difference because of their willingness to ?go the extra mile? in service and contribution. From rescuing senior aged dogs from animal shelters to serving food to the homeless on weeknights, volunteer heroes across America are being applauded.

?There are one thousand areas in each of our communities that need people to step forward and create positive change,? shares Extra Mile Day founder Shawn Anderson. ?Extra Mile Day is a chance to recognize those awesome heroes who unselfishly give of their time and resources to make an impact in their community.? Anderson continues, ?From the person who drives food to the elderly because they can?t leave home, to the faithful volunteer who answers phones at a local non-profit, America is made great not by political slogans, but by people proving they care through their often unrecognized actions.?

Mayor Marti Shamberger understands the significant and positive impact ?going the extra mile? can have on others, and she is making the November 1st ?Extra Mile Day? declaration in Morgantown, West Virginia. ?I have had great examples throughout my life of people who ?go the extra mile.? These are individuals who give of themselves without the expectation of being recognized. Acts of kindness, treating people with dignity, and being a voice for those who need help are a few of the actions I witness daily. I believe through these actions we are leaving our world a better place.

?Extra Mile Day? originated in 2009 with 23 inaugural cities. Since its early roots, the unique declaration has grown exponentially. ?Extra Mile Day highlights the real heroes in America,? concludes Anderson, a six-time motivational book author. ?They are the teacher who donates her own time after school coaching parents, the person who mows the lawn for his busy neighbor, the mom who gives hour after hour of volunteer service to her kid?s school. These are the heroes who are going the extra mile and making a difference in a thousand ways. These are the heroes who are truly making America great.?
