Hindus have welcomed naming of Airbus Group?s new project, an electric autonomous flying vehicle platform for individual passenger and cargo transport, as Vahana,

Vahana, a Sanskrit word generally translated as vehicle or carrier, prominently figures in ancient Hindu texts Puranas and is associated with many deities.

Claimed as ?future of urban mobility? and aimed at relieving urban congestion, flight tests of the first Vahana vehicle prototype are slated for the end of 2017.

Distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada today, welcomed the usage of Sanskrit terminology from Hindu texts to name such an innovative project. He urged other world corporations to explore the richness of thought offered by Hinduism texts and incorporate it with future innovations.

Rajan Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, further said that that Sanskrit, which was known as ?the language of the gods?, provided the theoretical foundation of ancient sciences. According to tradition, self-born God created Sanskrit, which was everlasting and divine, Zed added.

Airbus Group, headquartered in Leiden, Netherlands, claims to be ?a global pioneer in aeronautics, space and defence-related services, creating cutting-edge technology?. Thomas Enders is Chief Executive Officer of Airbus Group, while Denis Ranque is its Board Chairman. Airbus recently celebrated the delivery of its 10,000th aircraft.
