He has recently passed the exam given by the Florida State Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services and is now certified as a commercial wildlife management specialist. Florida Law requires every commercial wildlife management trapper to be certified before they are allowed to deal with or attempt to control commensal rodents in the state.

The Florida Department of Agriculture serves as the regulating body for these professionals, under the provisions of Structural Pest Control Act, Chapter 482, Florida Statutes. Certified operators must also be certified in specific categories in which their employers want to operate. For instance, licensed firms must specify whether they belong to presently available categories like General Household Pest and Rodent Control, Termite and Other Wood-Destroying Organisms Control, Lawn and Ornamental Pest Control, and Fumigation.

Pest control operators are required to take and pass written test examinations given by the agency itself. However, those who wish the test must first be qualified to do so. For instance, they should at least have high school level education and three years? worth of experience under a licensee of the state of Florida prior to applying for the exam. Those qualifying under education should have a degree and 20 semester hours or 30 quarter hours of advanced training in botany, entomology, horticulture and agronomy.

Limited Commercial Wildlife Management operators can trap fruit rats, mice, raccoons, opossums, squirrels, armadillos, skunks, iguanas, muscovy ducks and other nuisance wildlife in, on under or around structures.
