Schooners North Offers Full-Day Wildlife Adventure and Whale Watching

Friday Harbor, Washington (May 19, 2016) ? Schooners North now offers would-be voyagers a chance to observe the majestic wildlife along the San Juan Islands with full day whale watching charters from now through October. A friendly crew of experienced sailors will man the historic wooden schooner Spike Africa on an educational expedition. On each voyage, guests will be accompanied by a naturalist to answer any questions and to point out areas of interest throughout the whole day. For any children onboard, there is a special gathering to help them learn to identify different wildlife that can be spotted.

The ?Orca Quest and Wildlife Adventure? is a golden opportunity to encounter all kind of marine life residing in the peaceful waters such as the Orca whale, grey whale, humpback whale that are usually found in the Salish Sea during the warm summer months. Other marine life such as seals, sea lions, dolphins, otters and porpoises are also known to make frequent appearances. Of course, sightings of the iconic Bald Eagle as well as the local and migratory birds are also common.

On our Whale and Wildlife Quest, and when the winds are right, our sailing schooner allows us to be quietly under sail, and as minimally intrusive as possible. This is not only less stressful for wildlife, but you will feel a greater connection to the beautiful, natural world around us.

Spike Africa was originally built by Bob Sloan to serve as a freighting vessel some forty years ago. After a much needed refitting, the vessel is now fully restored and upgraded to provide guests with utmost comfort and luxury the entire duration of the voyage.
