Hindus have welcomed the change of heart of Oxford University for reportedly including Hinduism in the Theology course.

Distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada today, called it a step in the positive direction, although it came very late.

Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, indicated that Oxford seemed to have finally recognized that religion encompassed much more than one?s own particular tradition or personal experience.

Rajan Zed further said that a deeper, inclusive and broader understanding of religion was needed. Oxford seemed to have begun taking the religion seriously, had started coming out of the ?selective? mode and appeared to be making efforts towards including ?others?, Zed added.

According to reports, Oxford?s Theology degree curriculum will now include Hinduism. Its undergraduate in ?Theology and Religion? now includes Sanskrit and Hinduism. Course content of its Masters\' Degrees in Study of Religions also includes Hinduism.

?Theology and Religion at Oxford is embracing wholeheartedly the challenges of the 21st century with the opportunity to study all the major world religions and their primary languages?, an announcement says.
