Mushrooming of global education and educational institutions disseminating the same have spiked the demand for teachers.
Jeddah, 3 February 2016.
Considerable salary hikes on job change, headhunters poaching talent, perquisites galore, expatriates competing with nationals for senior posts, lucrative salaries for those at the very top ? what's the job? School teacher.
One of the jobs which was not considered to be quite promising in the past have come up with lucrative opportunities both for the new entrants as well as the experienced ones. The always important but not always well-paid jobs which include teaching in the school is undergoing a great revolution with great opportunities in terms of cross-cultural experience and impressive emoluments especially for those schools which cater the urban elite.
Poaching, said headhunters, is inevitable because demand exceeds supply. International schools are recruiting experienced teachers ? that's the prime market driver. The schools have also become the preferred choice of the parents who want a collaborative and holistic learning mechanism for their wards. Education experts and headhunters said affluent parents prefer schools that offer a globally branded curriculum, hence the demand for international schools. The story within this story is the arrival and pay packets of expatriates. IB schools especially are big hirers of foreign teachers and principals. Not just the United Kingdom, the traditional source of expat teachers for established high-end schools, teachers are being recruited now from the United States, European countries and even South East Asia and Latin America. Expat teachers and principals typically get paid more than their national counterparts. Top schools recruit expats, said headhunters, because they signal high quality and experience in global education settings.
