Hindus have welcomed the idea of prayer/meditation space in the student union building of University of California-Los Angeles (UCLA).

Distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada today, said that an interfaith prayer/meditation space would be a step in the positive direction for UCLA for quiet reflection and spiritual exercise.

Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, pointed out that the presence of such prayer/meditation spaces would lead UCLA students to a spiritually meaningful life in addition to material success after they graduated from here.

Moreover, UCLA needed to recognize the intersection of spirituality and education, Rajan Zed added.

Associated Students of UCLA, which is planning to create this space where students and faculty can pray/meditate, claims to be the nation\'s largest student association.

Established in 1919, UCLA, with over 43,000 students, boasts of 13 Nobel laureates and 250 Olympic medals. Iconic alumni include film director Francis Ford Coppola, actor James Dean, Basketball superstar Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, etc. Gene Block is the Chancellor.
