Charlie Sheen Releases Self from Stigma of HIV

Charlie Sheen has announced publicly that he has contracted the Human Immunodeficiency Virus, HIV, in an effort to inspire others to fight back against extortion based on stigma-fueled secrecy.

Matt Lauer recently interviewed Charlie Sheen on NBC's Today show, as Charlie Sheen announced to the world that he has been diagnosed with HIV. Sheen shared his personal health condition publically in an effort to release himself from alleged extortion, to end a smear campaign against him, and to dispel the stigma of HIV.

Sheen said he had revealed his diagnosis with people he trusted, who used fear tactics fueled by the stigma that is often attached to HIV - to blackmail him - by threatening to leak the sensitive information. His physician, Dr. Robert Huizenga, also spoke, confirming that Sheen does not have AIDS, but has contracted HIV. Sheen said he doesn't know how he contracted the virus he was diagnosed with approximately 4 years ago.

€œUpwards of $10 million" is what it has cost Sheen to keep the secret thus far, and Sheen hopes that appearing on Today, and being openly honest about his disease will put a stop to the payouts.

€œThat's my goal. That's not my only goal. I think I release myself from this prison today €“ I have to put a stop to this onslaught, this barrage of attacks and of sub-truths and very harmful and mercurial stories that are about me, threatening the health of so many others €“ that couldn't be further from the truth", Sheen emphatically told Lauer.

€œI trusted them, and they were deep in my inner circle, and I thought they could be helpful. My trust turned to their treason", Charlie explained, stressing the ramifications of complying with the shakedowns, €œWhat people forget is that it's money taken from my children."

Sheen hopes to motivate others, saying, €œI have a responsibility now to better myself and to help a lot of other people and hopefully with what we're doing today others will come forward and say, 'Thanks, Charlie'."
