According to a new research report by RNCOS entitled, ?Global Wearable Medical Devices Market Outlook 2020?, The modern day wearable medical devices are easy to handle and interpret, and thus, are widely used among people desiring for improved medical care. Having several advantages over the traditional care models, these devices offer high patient safety as well as more health independence among the geriatric population. Nowadays, such devices are integrated with low-power wireless communication interfaces such as Bluetooth and low ?power wifi, which make them easy to connect either through a smartphone, tablet, or other wristbands. Manufacturers are focusing to make wearables more patient -friendly by incorporating several health diagnosing parameters in the existing smart devices. For example, the wrist watch by Samsung, Sony etc, that was used to monitor only heart rate in the last decade is today upgraded into a powerful gadget to store vast quantities of data on patient information such as SPO2, heart rate, temperature, and blood pressure.

The University of Washington has studied the effectiveness of mHealth apps in managing chronic diseases, such as diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular disease and chronic lung diseases. It is studied that short message service was the most commonly used m-adherence tool by the patients. The research concluded that mHealth apps hold a great potential for early timely monitoring symptoms of the chronic disease. Similarly, the application of mHealth apps is extended in the field of mental health. The Mental health apps are developed for evidence based treatments, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy and exposure therapy. Apps are designed as symptom trackers, as well as assessment and psycho educational tools. Researchers in Canada are also examining intake of Vitamin D by using Vitamin D Calculator app.
