According to our report entitled ?Global Antibody Drug Conjugate Market Outlook 2020?, ADCs are a new class of highly potent and selective biological drugs. They are attracting a lot of interest from researchers worldwide. Their ability to sensitively discriminate between healthy and diseased tissues by combining the specificity of an antibody along with the cytotoxic effects of a drug is instilling fascination among big pharma companies. In order to cash in on this new technology, pharma giants are indulging in strategic moves, such as collaborations, mergers and acquisitions. Most of these moves are being made in order to combine technologies and capabilities from other companies with inherent ones for the development of ADCs.

One such example is of CytomX Therapeutics, a probody therapeutics company, and Immunogen Inc., a biotechnology company, that developed targeted anticancer therapies using antibody drug conjugate technology. The two companies entered into a collaboration to develop probody conjugate therapies, a type of ADC that localizes therapeutic activity to the tumor micro-environment. This collaboration brought together CytomX?s proprietary antibody making technology and tumor-selective protease substrates with Immunogen Inc?s highly potent ADC cell-killing agents and engineered linkers.

Another example of collaboration is that of Innate Pharma and Sanofi. In 2015, these two big companies collaborated to develop ADCs. These companies are making use of Innate Pharma?s site specific conjugation technology for the development of new ADCs. Sanofi also collaborated with Catalent Pharma solutions. These two companies will be making use of SMARTag technology in the development of next generation of antibody drug conjugates. Apart from this, Bristol Myers Squibb collaborated with Seattle Genetics in 2015. The main aim of this collaboration is to evaluate efficacy of a combination of Adcetris and Opdivo for the treatment of hematological malignancies. By making collaborations with each other, these companies share the technology with each other, thus simplifying the ADC development procedure.
