GreenwoodNursery.com shares the latest tip on shade trees that they are sharing with their new homeowner customers on using Thuja Green Giant Evergreen Trees. With smaller lots creating limited yard spaces in many new home developments, homeowners rarely have the space for planting traditional shade trees. With crowded backyards often as narrow as 20 to 25 feet wide, utilizing the open space for childrens play, yard games, and gardening becomes priority.
Using the Green Giant Arborvitae Trees in 2s and 3s in the outer corners and sides nearer the house creates privacy and shade for those areas. Lower growing evergreen or flowering shrubs can be planted between the 2 areas creating continuity, interest and further privacy, much like a frame for a picture.
Whether we realize it or notwe plant for the future, notes Cheryl Jones, President of Greenwood Nursery. With smaller yard space, traditional shade trees will overtake these narrow spaces in the near future. Jones adds, Plant taller growing, conical shaped trees, like the Thuja Green Giants Evergreen Trees in 3s positioning one in the corner with 1 on each side coming out from the corner much like a triangle for faster growing shaded space. Says Jones, In narrow and small landscapes with south to western views, this triangle setup creates nicely shaded corner spaces that are just perfect for sitting areas.
