Saudi Arabia to Construct a Multi-million Footbridge in Sharaie to Help Pedestrians

London, 13 October, 2015: The Makkah municipality has finally confirmed to construct the very first footbridge in the Sharaie area in east Makkah. The total cost expected to incur for construction of the bridge is approximately SR5.358 million. The decision of the municipality came after making a commitment on the location to the implementing company, who has assured to begin the work at the beginning of next month. While issuing a public statement, head of the municipality's supervision administration, Sharaf Al-Qurashi, said, ?The location of the bridge is chosen carefully to be situated on Omar Qadhi Street, a busy road with many commercial shops in the area.?

He even made it clear that the footbridge will be designed carefully with advanced escalators so that the people enjoy proper comfort. The project is expected to ease utter congestion and ensure traffic safety on the roads while the pilgrims move from one place to another. The municipality is even planning to build Duqum Al-Wabar overpass, linking Al-Haram Road and Muzdalifah Road with King Abdulaziz Road, some prominent areas during Hajj.

The municipality's assistant director for roads, Mohammad Abu Taleb, said, ?The municipality is hoping to execute this project over a very short period of time, no more than five months, so that the season can benefit the most from the development.? The authorities are making sure that only highest quality raw material is used in the construction process to ensure durability.
