CBU Online Organized Inaugural Doctorate Defense

Riverside, CA ? July 13, 2018. The Inaugural Doctorate Defense for the Doctor of Public Administration was held on July 9, 2018 at the CBU Online Tyler Plaza Building. During this event, two students ? Tanya Harris and Brian Guzzetta ? were honored for their hard work and effort.

Both Tanya and Brian were recognized for the hard work and preparation that went into developing their dissertations respectively titled ?The Path to Understanding Public Sector Silent Heroes ? Millennial Accountants? and ?The Social Impact of Public Safety Exploring.?

Tanya Harris currently serves as the General Accounting Chief for Riverside County and was acknowledged as the first candidate for the Doctor of Public Administration to successfully defend a full dissertation. Riverside Fire Station 4 Captain Brian Guzzetta also defended his dissertation.

The members who served on the dissertation committees for Tanya and Brian were:

* Elaine Ahumada: Program Director (Doctorate in Public Administration)

* Mary Ann Pearson: Professor (Communication Studies)

* Patricia Kircher: Professor (Political Science & Public Administration)

* Mark Kling: Associate Professor (Criminal Justice)

Tanya Harris earned her Bachelor of Science in Accounting degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1990, but received both her Master?s and Doctor in Public Administration degrees from CBU in 2014 and 2018 respectively.
Brian Guzzetta has worked in the fire service for more than 25 years. He earned his Bachelor?s in Fire Science degree from Columbia Southern University in 2014. Like Tanya, he received both has Master?s and Doctor in Public Administration degrees from CBU in 2015 and 2018 respectively.
Elaine Ahumada received her bachelors of Theatre Arts, master?s in public administration and Doctor of Public Administration all from the University of La Verne in 1989, 1995 and 2005 respectively. Mark Kling received his master?s and doctorate degrees in public administration from the same university in 1999 and 2004 respectively but earned his bachelor?s in business administration from the University of Phoenix in 1996.

Patricia Kircher also received her master?s and doctorate degrees in public administration from the University of La Verne in 1995 and 2004 respectively. However, she started her academic journey by earning an associate?s degree in nursing from the Riverside Community College in 1979 followed by her bachelor?s degree in business administration from California Baptist College in 1993.
